One more victory to secure $1 Million - ÅF Golden League
Monte-Carlo - Pamela Jelimo and Blanka Vlasic have one more step to conquer in their six meeting quest to claim the $1 Million Jackpot of the ÅF Golden League which reaches its finale in Brussels, Belgium on Friday 5 September.
The ÅF Golden League seasons of our two contenders so far:
800m - Pamela Jelimo, 18, (KEN): 1:54.99 Area Record / World Junior record in Berlin; 1:55.41 in Oslo; 1:55.69 in Rome; 1:54.97 Area Record / World Junior record in Paris; 1:54.01 Area Record / World Junior record in Zürich.
> 1:54.87 gold medal, Area Record / World Junior record in Beijing; African champion, the sensational find of the year
High Jump - Blanka Vlasic, 24, (CRO): 2:03m in Berlin; 2.04m in Oslo; 2.00m in Rome; 2.01m in Paris; 2.01m in Zürich.
> 2.05m silver medal in Beijing; World champion indoors and out
The only possible Jackpot scenarios in Brussels:
>>Should both Jelimo and Vlasic win, so achieving six victories, they will take an equal share of the $1 Million ($500,000 each).
>>Should only one of them win in Brussels, that athlete will take the $1 Million outright.
>>Should neither of them win in Brussels then the $1 Million is lost.
Then and only then, a secondary prize of $500,000 becomes applicable to reward any athlete with FIVE victories in the series.
There is only one other athlete who has the possibility to share this prize and that is Jeremy Wariner (USA) who currently has four victories at 400m this summer.
>>If Jelimo and Vlasic lose and Wariner was to win in Brussels he would share this secondary prize of $500,000 with them ($166,666 each).
>>If all three lose in Brussels, the secondary prize would be shared between Jelimo and Vlasic ($250,000 each).
NOTE. As usual, it is stipulation that any winner of the Jackpot must also compete at the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final, Stuttgart, Germany, 13 / 14 September 2008 to be eligible for their prize(s).
