Research Introduction

Research Projects

The IAAF, with help from the IAF, has in the past initiated several scientific projects in the areas of biomechanics, coaching and development. With the completion of the projects, a final report was produced, as a resource for further information and as documentation of the projects.

Biomechanical Research Projects

The IAAF and the IAF supports biomechanical projects once in every decade, as a service to their Member Federations, at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Rome 1987 and in 1997 in Athens and at the XXXIV Olympiad in Seoul 1988.

Congresses - Symposia - Seminars

Several activities have been organised under the supervision of the IAAF.

At the 4th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Stuttgart in 1993 the IAF organised a specific congress on the development co-operation of the IAAF, “Sport and Athletics for All“.

In 1996 a seminar in Dublin focussed on the global vision behind the IAAF’s efforts and activities in development, and there was a Symposium organised in Jakarta on Women’s related issues.

In 2002 the IAF along with the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation hosted an international working group on Youth Athletics.
